R&B Live at SpotLight Live!
Last night I attended SpotLight Live in NYC for the R&B Live show featuring the DTP fam and hosted by Ludacris. Accompanying me there was one of the founding mama’s of Suacy PR and The Saucy Report, Super T also known as Luigi…my nick name for her. Anyhoo there were many celebs which attended including the biggest, L.A. Reid, A.J. ex-host of 106 and Park, Vanessa Simmons and many more.
One let me say as I stepped into one of my first industry parties I came to a serious conclusion, they are all generic. There was nothing original there. The men were tall and checking out who had on the best jewels and the women were checking out each other’s weave game (mine was on point). As me and Luigi made our way through the crowd I realized the energy was low and prayed to baby Jesus the performers could make a difference.
The first performance was given by Steph Jones who Ludacris described as a mix between The Beatles and Musiq Soulchild. I doubted this but gave my ears a chance to absorb his voice. His voice was a good blend of old and new and his range suprised me. During one of his last songs he tried to seduce the women in the audience to “take the tie” as it says in his song. Well let me say no one took his tie and no one found it rather sexy in the least but it was something quite entertaining to witness. I don’t know if I would compare him to the artists in which Luda had but I will keep a eye out for this young man. If not for his voice then I will be surely checking him out for his looks.
Shareefa was the second performance and this girl came out HOOD! I love this girl and her realness. It radiates from her like weed from the body guards last night. She song her hit single from way back (last year) and tried to hype the crowd from bringing out the singer from Floetry. Reefa came back out and song her new single “Fire” and it was ok nothing special to me but hey I can barely sing so who am I to talk.
During a short break before the final performance a fight broke out where one bouncer looked like he was about to cry. I felt so bad for him but oh well life goes on.
Bobby Valentino, wet panties Bobby came on to the stage with fire! He tried to hype the crowd with his hit “Tell me” and it worked until some fool got into a shoving match. Black people I’m telling you. Anyways back to Mr. V. He sang his beautiful songs to the women int he crowd and I must admit I almost swooned (Sigh). He suprised everyone when he brought out members from Mister, his old group, and performed. I loved this and snapped my fingers to their tune. Finally Bobby closed by singing his new song “Sexy Girl” and I must admit I rather enjoyed it. Apparently it was his birthday also (HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. V) and his DTP fam brought out a cake for the birthday boy who song to himself while on stage. I must say I gained new respect for Bobby when I heard him live. This man can blow and screw anyone who thinks differently.
FYI
Did you all know Bobby V. tried out for the first season of American Idol? Well he did and Simon Cowell turned him down. Well I must say that was for the best because B is making money and music and is not caught up in a contract tighter then a virgins thighs (to my knowledge).
After a while the party began to fan out and I hit the road to think back on my time spent at SpotLight Live and thought this my time was well spent and I couldn’t wait to share the experience.
Jacqs!
